Brixen – the centre of the Eisacktal valley
Brixen lies in the immediate vicinity of our “Pinzagen” holiday apartments. It enchants visitors with its many charms: quaint little alleys and archways (the so-called “Lauben”), the cathedral of Brixen, the “White Tower”, the Hofburg Castle (with attached Museum and Nativity Scene), not to mention the cloister and its arched walkway – one of the most important monuments of alpine mural painting, embellished with precious frescos from as early as the 14th century.
Adventure holiday in the cultural city Brixen
Brixen is the biggest and most important city in the Eisacktal valley, well-known for being the eldest town in Tyrol. Nestling between vineyards and green fields, Brixen lies in the wide and sunny channel at the foot of the local mountain Plose.
The city, of approximately 20, 000 inhabitants, has succeeded memorably in maintaining its impressive historical flair and cosy atmosphere; the city is brimming with cultural treasures, romantic alleys, busy archways, small shops of South Tyrolean craftsmanship and Italian fashion, as well as relaxing cafés and historical buildings.
Brixen is the religious centre of South Tyrol and shares the episcopical see with the regional capital Bozen/Bolzano. Pope Benedict XVI, whose ancestors originate from the nearby Pustertal valley, visited the town on several occasions. He also spent his summer holidays in 2008 in Brixen.
